Rise Up!
Responsive, Inclusive, Safe Environment
Creating consent-conscious environments in middle and high schools
About Us
RISE and what we stand for.
RISE is a student-led task force out of Palo Alto, Califonia creating a responsive school environment that enforces consent and healthy relationships.
After a series of sexual assaults in our school district, RISE was first founded in ___ by a group of highschoolers at Palo Alto High School (Paly) as a ____.
Since then, Paly RISE Club has worked to create a consent conscious school environment that does not tolerate misconduct.
RISE Up! High School is an extension of Paly RISE Club, working to build consent conscious environments at middle and high schools all over.
We value supporting and believing survivors, teaching about healthy, safe relationships, and using preventative education to help young people understand the importance of consent.
The mission of RISE Up! High School Is to bring clubs like ours to other schools. To bring RISE to your school, click the button below to learn how to create a better school environment, and see our other pages for information on the events you can host!
Bring RISE to Your School
How you can create a healthier environment at your school.
RISE Up! High School was created specifically to spread our message to other schools, creating healthier and consent conscious environments in all schools. To bring RISE to your school, we highly recommend the following:
Form a club at your school
Create a student led-activism group
Try to get funding from your school’s PTA or student body for events
Fundraise for your cause
Plan events (there are some great ideas below!)

Consent Education
Teaching the importance of consent young.
One of the best ways we can end sexual abuse is teaching the value of consent.
We lead annual consent education for various grades, teaching students the precise definitions of consent, the importance of creating and respecting boundaries, and how to stand up to those violating consent.
Our consent education lessons also feature important information on building healthy relationship and how to stop toxic and abusive relationships in our lives.
We collaborate with One Love Foundation to teach students with engaging and interactive presentations. These lessons are student run by high schoolers who voulenteer to be facilitators and attend multiple trainings, and present to their peers.
By teaching students how to treat and respect each other, we can help prevent sexual abuse and toxic relationships.

Denim Day
Showing support to survivors of sexual assault, abuse, and harassment by believing in them.
“Wearing jeans with purpose”. As of the most highly participated in events supporting survivors of sexual assault, denim day works to show support to those survivors and stand up to the idea that the clothes you wear signifies “asking for it”.
Denim day was founded in 1999, and it “began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. (Denim Day, 2024)”. CITATION
This event is hosted on the 3rd Thursday of April, which is sexual assault awareness and prevention month. You can join in denim day by wearing jeans or other denim on this day.
At Paly RISE, we host our event by passing out denim pins to student. You can do this too with the following items.
1-4 pairs of large jeans (1 XL mens pair yields approximately 500 squares)
Fabric scissors
Safety pins (1 for each pin being made)
Quart plastic bags
We have also created a denim photo frame for students to take pictures with on denim day. It was made with the following:
22x28 poster board (or of similar sizing)
Box cutter
1-3 pairs of jeans or other denim (it looks good to have multiple colors
Hot glue (1 bag)
Hot glue gun
Fabric scissors
By creating opportunities to participate in the event without wearing denim directly, it helps more students and teachers show support to survivors even if they forget to wear denim that day.
Watch the video below to learn how to create the denim pins and photo frame.
